This One Word Changed Everything Immediately

Two Tip Tuesday is back! At least for this week. If you're new here, Two Tip Tuesday is where I share one favorite parenting tip (as briefly as I can) and one red-hot resource. To subscribe, click HERE. Let's dive in!

1.  Spillover - A Magical Word

I advise all of my clients to teach their child the word "SPILLOVER."  In fact, I used it last night with my son.

It's the idea that when we have big feelings, they can "spill over" onto other people. Parents do it. Kids do it. All people do it. The way to get power over it is to name it when it's happening.

Last night, after snapping at my son for asking me to stay in his room past bedtime, I crawled back into his bed 20 minutes later and said, "Sorry, I spilled over on you. I wasn't mad at you. I was frustrated after a bad day at work and I took it out on you." He squeezed me tight and said, "It's okay."

If he's spilling over, I might say: "You're not acting like yourself today. Usually, you're so caring. Is everything okay?  Did something happen and now you're spilling over?"

Teach your kids this concept so your family can talk honestly about it when it's happening. When my kids were little, we called it "Rowfing" based on this wonderful story by Kathy Hunter

A mother and her son lie in bed under a white blanket, sharing a quiet moment. The mother, looking emotional, rests her head against her son's, while he gazes calmly ahead. In speech bubbles, she says, "Sorry I spilled over," acknowledging her emotions, and he responds reassuringly, "It's okay." The scene captures a heartfelt exchange of understanding and connection between them.

2.  The Boy Mom Method™ App

If you're not logged into my Boy Mom app, I recommend it.

You'll become an expert in the method while getting customized coaching from an AI bot that is solely trained in The Boy Mom Method™.  Her name is Sage and she's my right-hand gal.

After asking Sage your parenting questions, she'll gather more information about your son and then create a customized action plan. You'll get activities to try with your son and ideas for how to create a closer mother-son relationship while inspiring him to cooperate. Let me know what you think!

❤️ Rachel
