Two Tip Tuesday #18: Replace "Use Your Words" With this Phrase

Yesterday was my birthday. I'm a weirdo and love to work on my birthday. When my kids were younger, I used to spend my entire birthday at the library cleaning out my inbox. Nowadays, I'm an "Inbox 0 (to 10-ish)"  kind of girl, but I still enjoy a get-things-done kind of birthday and lots of celebrations throughout the week.

Let's dive into Two Tip Tuesday...

1. Replace "Use Your Words" with "Use These Words"

I used to say, "Use your words" to my boys when they would get grabby or aggressive.

Then I realized that they didn't know the words, and if they did, they couldn't access them in that heated moment.

Today's tip is to say:  "Use these words" instead

Then tell your child the exact words you want them to say.

You can even say, "Repeat after me" and then wait for them to repeat it back.

And by the way, I know this sounds like a tip reserved for little kids, but it's not. Even big kids need help knowing what to say and will appreciate you throwing them a lifeline when they don't know how to get their way with words.

Try it out and let me know how it goes

A woman with sunglasses resting on her head smiles while posing next to a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The dog looks up at her affectionately. They are in a comfortable living room with a red couch, framed photos on the wall, and a soccer ball in the background. The atmosphere feels warm and relaxed, as they share a quiet moment together.

2.  Loop Ear Plugs have Changed My Life

I want to make a plug for Loop Ear Plugs, which have changed my life as a mom. I discovered them 4 years ago when Loki, the snoring dog, joined our family and I needed a great set of earplugs to help me sleep.

I bought these earplugs and got so much more than I bargained for. They allow voices to come through but they drown out background noise and take the edge off of whining or grating sounds and certain voices (not mentioning any names).

My husband is sound-sensitive and he loves wearing them around the house in the evening when he's feeling easily triggered by noise at the end of a long day.

They come with a little case, which I wear like a locket around my neck when I go to concerts, parties, or even restaurants with poor acoustics.

I've recommended them to tons of clients (for adults and their kids) to help drown out the grating sounds of their household. They're super comfortable and discreet (I'm wearing them in the photo above).

They have several new styles depending on your needs. Don't ask me which one to get, but definitely consider them if you want to improve the sound quality of your life.

❤️ Rachel
