For some families, the school year is looming large and the transition back to routines and homework feels too soon. Way too soon! For others, the first day of school can't come fast enough.
Either way, I have one tip and one red hot resource for how to get organized and ready. I'll show you how our family resets for the school year.
1. The "Back to School Family Reset"
My family would not survive our transition back-to-school without our annual "Back to School Family Reset" and whiteboard exercise.
My kids groan about it, but they'd be lost without it - so we march on!
I can't teach you the whole process in one quick post but here are a few tips:
Before your meeting, make a template to fill in during your meeting. I rely on a huge whiteboard and make sections for screen rules, morning and evening routine, carpool schedule, our chore draft, and a calendar for the first month of school.
Ask each person:
"What worked last school year?" AND
"What do you want to improve on, or need help with, this year?"
Take notes and make sure everyone contributes!
Then work through each section. The key to success is collaborating with kids until everyone has buy-in.
If this is new, it might take a few meetings to complete everything.
Start when they're young and never stop!
A few weeks after school starts, revisit the plan and make adjustments.
Join me in person if you want to see my family's process in action, hear examples, and get tips on how to make this work.
I'm pulling back the curtain and showing you exactly how I set my whole family up for success at the beginning of every school year. Join me on Zoom on August 8th at 12 pm Pacific time. Registration is required.
2. I Released an App for Boy Moms!
Did you know that I have an app? It's still in beta but it's pretty awesome!
I'd love for you to try it out and let me know if you find it valuable.
And I'd extra LOVE to hear specific examples of how it helped in your parenting.
It's called Boy Mom and you can access it on iPhone and Android right here:
I hope to see you at the back-to-school meeting or in the app!
❤️ Rachel
P.S. Every week I send this newsletter to thousands of parents and typically receive between 0 and 1 reply. I know you're busy, but I'd also love to know if Two Tip Tuesday is helping!
Should I keep going? Please motivate me by hitting reply and letting me know if you're enjoying Two Tip Tuesday.
